Run in Poland: Warmińsko-Mazurskie

The true essence of sports, particularly those played outside great arenas, away from the noisy media, lies in passion and readiness to compete, make sacrifices and work hard. Over the recent years, an increasing demand has been observed among the public for outdoor recreational activities. Not only in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship, but throughout the country, local communities readily set to work to organize marathons, half marathons, or triathlons. An even more common phenomenon is readiness to participate in such events. Every year, there are more and more running events and yet their starting points are bursting at the seams. You need to act well in advance to get your name on the entry list. The number or sponsors has been rising, too. It’s gratifying to note that and there are grounds for optimism for the future.

Much publicity was received by the initiative of a resident of Olsztyn who in 2013 organized the first edition of the Six Leg Run. It is a run with dogs from the shelter, intended not only as an opportunity to engage in physical activity, but also to aid the abandoned animals. The idea has since been adopted in other parts of the country, and the circle of its supporters has been growing steadily. This year, the run will have its fifth birthday, so it has been worth the effort.

Another sign of the growing popularity of running activities is the increasing number of requests received by the Self-Government of the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship for financial support, trophies and medals. The events include short-distance runs, marathons or triathlons. The triathlon is a multi-stage competition, requiring iron fitness and a wealth of talents. It is an excellent manifestation of the spirit of competition and requires specialisation in three disciplines: cycling, swimming and running. Enthusiasts of this Olympic sport readily come to visit Warmia and Mazury. Our Region, like no other in Poland, provides excellent conditions for doing each of the stages of triathlon. Enchanting running and cycling routes and first of all the wealth of lakes are becoming a magnet for all those seeking sports adventure but also preferring active rest. Last year, two large triathlon events took place: the Susz Triathlon and Triathlon Energy in Mrągowo. In 2018, in addition to the competition in Susz (22-24.06.2018), you will be able to test yourself in the Triathlon European Cup in Olsztyn (26.05.2018), the triathlon competition in Szczytno (15.07.2018) and the Ultra Marathon in Stare Jabłonki (11.08.2018).

The last factor in the popularization of running sports, but not only those, is the increasing public awareness of healthy lifestyles. Outdoor body building gyms are being established and there are more and more personal coaches offering their services; new magazine titles are being started wherein you can find lots of recipes, advice and tips on how to stay fit. Access to such information is huge. If you combine all that, add a little bit of your free time and will, it becomes evident that leading a healthy lifestyle is not at all that difficult. Plan your leisure time, so that you can acquaint yourself with the assets of our friendly Region. You will find a really great number of attractions here.
