Tourist Lodzkie

When planning a visit to Poland, the biggest attractions of Lodz and Lodzkie region, are worth adding to the agenda. It is not very complicated to reach the region since it is located in the center of Poland and Europe, at the intersection of major communication routes A1 and A2. Moreover Lodz Agglomeration Railway (ŁKA) provides numerous connections which make travelling throughout the region fast and easy. In addition journey from Warsaw to Lodz (by car or by train) will take no more than 1,5 hours.

Active tourism

Lodzkie region seems to be an eldorado of active tourism. The longest horse trail in the Europe (it is more than 2000 km long) awaits horse lovers. We have also something for bike freaks too - you can choose among more than 100 bike routes which run across the most scenic places in the region. Four rivers: Warta, Pilica, Bzura, Rawka and two artificial lakes: Zalew Sulejowski and Jeziorsko are waiting for sailors, anglers and water sports amateurs.

Monuments: architecture and technics

5 European Cultural Routes ran across the region: Amber, Romanesque, Cistercian abbeys, Warsaw – Vienna railway and the battle of Grunwald. On following routes you can find numerous historic cities, castles, abbeys, palaces and churches. The most important monuments are: the archicollegiate church in TUM (unique Romanesque building from XII century with the only Romanesque polychromy preserved in Poland. The church shelters also other unique monuments – Romanesque sculpture of Christ and knight’s tombstone with polychromy leftovers). Through the medieval ages Tum was one of the most important cities in Poland. Cistercian abbey in Sulejów (Sulejów development is related to the Cistercian abbey, founded in XII century by Kazimierz II called „Just” in a place now called Podklasztorze. Cistercian abbey belongs to the best preserved defense objects in Europe of the XV/XVI century. It includes: late Romanesque church of the Virgin Mary and St. Tomas Becket of Canterbury dated back to the first half of the XIII century, fragments of walls, tower, gates. As part of the object there is a hotel and a stylish restaurant), church in Innowłódz (fortified church of St. Idzi – a gem of Romanesque architecture built at the end of XI century. Its founder was king Władysław Herman. As the legend has it the foundation of the church was associated with the birth of his son Bolesław Krzywousty. Over the altar stone there is a valuable crucifix from the XV century. The St. Idzi church is one of the oldest churches in Poland).

The capital of the region - Łódź – city full of nineteenth- century palaces and hugh, made of red brick factories build by textile aristocrats, jaw-dropping murals painted by world-famous artists, Piotrkowska street full of buzz outpouring from more than 100 pubs and restaurants where you can taste flavors of the four cultures (German, Jewish, Polish and Russian).

In the Lodzkie region you can find also technology monuments. One of them is narrow–gauge railway in Rogów which was built in 1915 to improve the supply of soldiers on the frontline during World War I.
In Lodzkie region you can find also traces of World War II. In Konewka, near Spała, there is a complex of mysterious, old Germany concrete bunkers.

For Kids and Families Lodzkie is also family-friendly destination so start exploring and discover all the best activities and places to go that this region has to offer. Borysef Sarari ZOO spreads over 22 hectares and is home to over 450 species of animals origination all over the world. More than 500 hundred wild animals can be admired running free. You are welcome to see the most original species, such as: white lions and tigers. Also 37 Nile Crocodiles found a home here. This unique, private safari zoo is visited by hundred thousand of tourists each year.

For every little explorer PGE Power Giants is must see tourist attraction. This modern presentation displays a selection of items and multimedia materials related of natural sciences. The heroes guide the visitors around the exposition and invite them to enter the virtual world, at the same time revealing the secrets of brown coal formation and its use. The viewer has, among others, the opportunity to visit an excavation site, learn about the cycle of energy generation, conduct experiments on electricity with interactive games or take up the role of a power dispatcher.

The Arboretum in Rogów is one of the largest botanical gardens of its kind in Poland. Located in a thinned-out area of forest, it has the character of a forest park. With one of the most abundant and fascinating collections of trees and shrubs from all over the world in Central and Eastern Europe, it is completed with experimental forestry plots containing foreign species of forest trees and an alpine garden. Through the whole year parents and kids may admire splendid trees, bushes and flowers. Additional attraction creates possibility of meeting the arboretum residents such as : foxes, martens, squirrels, birds, frogs.

Microcosmos Park in Ujazd is education and entertainment garden where you can meet very realistic sculptures of giant insects and microorganisms, made with great attention to their morphological structure. For children and youth educational paths were created here.

SPA&WELLNESS

The most famous place in our region is thermal spa and pool complex in Uniejów. Baths in hot spring water bring spectacular effects in rehabilitation and recuperation. While visiting Uniejów you can explore the nearby castle, enjoy the knights tournaments and visit Indian village. Thermal baths are perfect proposal for all those who are seeking for relax, health and peace. Uniejów is also first health resort in this part of Poland.

Historical events

Lodzkie region can be also considered as a paradise for history lovers. Each summer, in Konopnica, European Amber Fest takes place. During the event you can discover Ancient Romans, Vikings and Slavic warriors meeting each other near Warta river. Łęczyca is famous for International Knights Tournament. Moreover each year, on the anniversary of outbreak the War World II, reconstruction of the battle of the Warta river is organized and in June the reconstructions of battles from World War I near Bolimów are organized.

Multiculturalism, folklore and traditional cuisine

Lodzkie consists of many ethnographically varied regions where until today you can meet old traditions and customs. Full recognition to the world gained traditional outfits and colorful folk art paper cuttings from Łowicz. Rich tradition of folk culture are also near Sieradz and Opoczno. In Spicymierz, near Uniejów, floral carpets (more than 2 km long) are arranged in the octave of Corpus Christi Day. In Lipce Reymontowskie tourists may take part in traditional, rural wedding from XIX century. The wedding has been described by Władysław Reymont (Nobel prize winner author) in the novel „Chłopi” („Peasant”). During the event you may try delicious traditional foods and drinks.
